Terah’s Testimonial
Terah
Hi! I’m Terah and I’m a teenager with scoliosis. I found out I had scoliosis when I was in elementary school. Since the degree of my curve wasn't severe, my doctor told me not to worry about it much. Later on, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I didn't go to the hospital for my yearly checkup since, obviously, scoliosis wasn't one of the biggest worries for me at the time. However, in 2021, I did go to a hospital checkup and found out that my scoliosis had progressed to almost 40 degrees, meaning I was in danger of needing surgery. Fortunately, because I was still growing, I instead wore a scoliosis brace for a little over a year to help prevent my scoliosis from progressing even more.
At this moment in time, my scoliosis has actually gotten better, now being at around 30 degrees. Of course, my scoliosis journey is not done, but I certainly have achieved some milestones.
Now, when I look back on my scoliosis journey, I think I would have had an easier time mentally and emotionally if I could have just talked to somebody about it, especially when I was going through the biggest hurdle in my scoliosis journey, which was adapting to be with my scoliosis brace almost 24/7 and overcoming the physical, emotional, and mental challenges of having scoliosis in general. And I also realized that somewhere out there, there might be somebody who feels the same way. However, it isn't like scoliosis is your go-to conversation starter. That's why through Bracing Scoliosis, I want to provide a channel for people who have scoliosis but don't have anyone to talk to about it to share their thoughts, concerns, and stories in our community blog/forum. Even if you don't have scoliosis, a simple message cheering on and spreading positivity to those with scoliosis in our community channel is always welcome. I really hope that through our discussion channel that those with scoliosis will find comfort and will be motivated to continue in their scoliosis journey. I also hope that people can learn more about scoliosis and not be afraid to talk about it.
So, together, let's brace scoliosis.
